Video live commerce is the “upgrade” to tele-shopping. Some may call it the “QVC for the social media generation”. Bubbly hosts would livestream and showcase a range of products; often throwing in enticing discounts and offers for the viewers. Viewers can post questions, interact with and send a deluge of hearts and emojis to the hosts. This is the new way of shopping.
A study by consumer research group L2 showed that two-thirds of beauty brands in China have held live streaming events on the giant e-commerce platform Tmall and similar sites. This new interactive shopping experience is embraced wholeheartedly by Chinese consumers, used to innovative ways to satisfy their shopping needs in a country that is currently obsessed with livestreaming. This trend is quickly catching on with consumers outside China.
Mediapreneur startup BeLive, is solidly in this space – signing up L'oreal as their first major beauty partner in live commerce. This campaign will be helmed by top influencers such as @speishi, @nicolechangmin, @emmtann, @yukatis, @rchlwngxx, @mykxii who have a total of over 700k followers. Flash sales on the livestream with these hosts have recently begun, drawing enthusiastic feedback from users. No doubt, more brands would be following the example of L'oreal!
