How do we bring about harmony in diversity? Popsical , the brand behind the smartest and smallest karaoke streaming system, believes that singing together is the key to celebrating harmony in diversity.
"The Singapore culture is one of the most diverse in the world. This diversity is a strength that should be celebrated. Singing together is one great way to do so! The Popsical Karaoke Sing-Off 2018 (PKSO 2018) has the theme ‘Harmony In Diversity’ this year. We’re aiming to celebrate the human love for singing that is inherent in all of us regardless of our language, age, gender or nationality." says Popsical CEO and co-founder Faruq Marican.
On 5th August, twenty talented singers in Singapore across the age spectrum, came together to fight for the champion title at the Popsical Karaoke Sing Off 2018.
Hundreds of people gathered at Our Tampines Hub to watch this head to head battle. The event also had a fun giveaway activity where random audience members were invited on stage and presented with cool X-Mini goodies. Judge Qiu Feng Ze and previous PKSO champion Fairus Adam also gave a small performance on stage.
2018 marks the second year that the Popsical Karaoke Sing-Off is held. The event received overwhelming response, attracting some 192 contestants of various nationalities, ranging in age from 11 to 55 years.
The eventual champion of Popsical Karaoke Sing Off 2018, Syah Riszuan, only 13 years old, blew everyone away with his rendition of "If I ain't got you" by Alicia Keys. He took home three thousand dollars, a Popsical bundle with a year of premium membership and the champion trophy. First runner-up was a dual act, Owen Lai & Mohamed Amirul. The second runner-up was another dual act called Azkalelo, consisting of Nurul Iman and Afrah Athasha.
The sing off ended with a moving performance, where all the competitors were called on stage to sing Kit Chan’s signature national song 'Home'. The audience were also invited to sing along. All of Our Tampines Hub joined in the song, with voices flowing from all tiers of the floor surrounding the stage.
Popsical also partnered with Mediacorp as its audition partner for Channel 8’s singing talent search – SPOP Sing!, with a weekly series of local artist features and interviews called #PopsicalGoesLocal hosted on Popsical’s Facebook and Instagram pages. This moves in tandem with ‘Vocal about Local’, a weekly live-streaming feature of local artistes in collaboration with Alfred Sim and A Better TV.
